Downtown abbey's content and fictional storyline meets the genre in several ways and to some extent. The historical drama is shown through the clothing, language spoken and the problems facing the characters.
The storyline focus' on current problems in that time period such as; 'the titanic' showing the effects it had on the British public it had at home. The show also maintains it's dramatic genre by creating problems for characters equalling arguments and things keeping the audience on the edge of their seat. The clothing is one of the top features in meeting the expectations of the genre as it's one of the first things the audience would see. The clothing closely maintains the historic image the presenters wanted the viewers to see.
