Question: Explain different ways in which people are being represented.

Peckham finishing school compares two extreme classes put together. The programme shows diversity by putting 4 richy girls in an urban enviroment (Peckham) to see if they could cope with not being in the safe zone as well as going into the heart of un employment.

The programme represent the higher class of society, 'the rich' as senseless money spenders and show the girls in Peckham as the stereotypical un-employed young adults of London. They present these both by picking extremes of the class spectrum. Therefore the rich girls are suggested as naive people who wouldn't know what to do and the Peckham girls are portrayed to the audience as "ruthless un educated" people.

2 ways in which men have been represented

In the KFC advertisement, people have been represented as stereotypical. The advert is associated with the 'perfect' family. This involves the mother cooking and cleaning and the Dad and child sitting on the sofa. The Mother has been represented as the 'typical woman' in wich she is cleaning and cooking for the Father and Son. The camera has emphasised this point by being pointed up when focusing on the Mother to show authority when the Son is talking to her. The Dad has been represented as the 'typical male' in the advert. The target audience can be found by the use of the 'typical male' as most men can relate to it in some way. The audio also shows this as the voice over, is talking like a 'typical male' as well. This gives away the target audience as it makes the male agree with the advert and then relates back to the product. The KFC worker is black and is presenting the product to the man as if it's a reward.

The Godfather Opening Scene

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB9cLr7OR-A
Lowkey lighting used on the man asking for help to suggest a sense of danger or something leading to come in the film about him.
Natural light on "the godfather" to suggest or represent the main character or a sense of importance about him.
Background and props are badley lit and use minimal lighting to suggest a danger about the room or the people in it as well as a sense of mystery.
Plant pot lighted that hasn't been watered to suggest a weak or dying idea by the man asking the godfather.
Red rose connotes evil and murder in which it has been lit while the godfather wheres it.

How are horror conventions challenged in scream?

One of the main conventions of a horror film that is challenged in scream is the fact that the main character in the film; "Drew Barrimore" dies in the opening scene. This challenges the conventions of horror as many expect the main character to remain in the film throughout until the end with the "final face off" with the villain. This adds a sense of mystery to the audience and keeps them on edge as they have never experienced something like this in a horror film before. We know that Drew Barrimore is the main character as the character is portrayed in posters and advertisements with the title of the film.

The opening scene of "scream" shows many other conventions of horror such as the reference to the film "halloween" with the knife when shes talking about her favourite horror films as it shows a glimse of what is to come in the film and how she tries to protect herself.
